great news we have a new definitely maybe last show of the year, playing with the dismemberment plan next friday. the dismemberment plan! the date, the place, the time, the rsvp.
I can’t get on tumbles at boring work so apologies our blogging is always a little delayed.
First and firstmostly we have a new song on our US label Enclaves’ sampler, ‘No Quarters’, alongside tracks by JAN, Life & Limb and Echopark. It’s called ‘Double Darkness’ (pronounced “doo-bluh”) and you can listen to it on Gold Flake Paint here or you can download the whole thing for the price of an email here.
Second and secondmostly we had a cool review in the NME today and bought many copies expecting the guy to react like when Larry in Orange Is the New Black buys all those New York Timeses, but that was not the case and it was an underwhelming transaction.
Thirdly Leah did an interview with DIY Magazine the other day and it got written up into a thing on page 15 (clicky here.)
OK off to spend all our NME money on bottle service, see you on Park Street.
As of yesterday, our album iiiiiisssss out! You can purchase it at your local record shop (if they don’t have it, ask them to order it!) or any number of mp3 places, or you can order direct from our labels here:
Super thanks to everyone who came along to our Bristol launch on Saturday, it was a true blast. We’re also playing this Saturday in London for our label’s birthday party. Dead early show, we’re on at 5pm.
DIY have Saturn Reruns streaming on their site before its release next Monday.
It’s enough of a swerving, jolting ride when listening to Empty Pools. To try and grapple at the themes and wild thoughts pouring into the songs themselves is a pretty futile task. That’s unless you’re studying the thing. Which you could, to be honest. There’s so much going on here, theses’ worth of work could be crafted as a response. Either that, or it’s about taking a more gung-ho approach of enjoying the damn thing. On ‘Saturn Reruns’ the Bristol outfit put all their stubbornly scheduled practice sessions into good use. It’s tough to find a more sharp, tightly-wound band in the country, at the moment. What’s profound and downright clever is made to sound like something that’s completely natural. It’s a special debut; one that should, given time, be considered as a cult triumph.
Ben and Leah wrote a little something about each of the songs for the post, if you wish to know the vague inspirations, tunings, cinematic references, etc. Enjoy!!!
One week ‘til release day! Last week we gave away one of the songs for free here (I forgot we had a blog sorry.) If you want the whole caboodle you can pre-order the CD here (ships worldwide very reasonably.) OR see below for release shows where you can get a CD with complimentary human interaction.

Stream the second single from Saturn Reruns right now! Clash were kind enough to prrrrremiere it yesterday, and they said it is “Subtle, poetic and gently anthemic.” cooool.
"It gives me goosebumps. Best one so far, in my opinion." - Leah’s mum.
Our first video! There was a lot of tension on set because of Matt and Ben’s dance rivalry but hopefully that energy translated well. Big ups to Simons Ainge and Kotowicz for making it happen.
We’ve also finalised the line-up for our Bristol album launch at Rise on November 2nd. SJ Esau will be playing live and we’ll have DJ Night Vacation (aka Bad Machinery's John Allison, who made our tour poster last year) and DJ Eagle Control (aka Twitter’s Laura Snapes) and our labelmates Falling Stacks will be DJing too. RSVP on fassy here.
Our label BATTLE celebrates its first birthday the week of our album release, come party! Very limited tickets on sale here. Bands and DJs from 1pm. Apparently we will be DJing at some point. Petrifying.
The unofficial (non-BATTLE-affiliated but perfectly official otherwise) karaoke afterparty is happening at Karaoke Box, Farringdon. RSVP to mptypls[at]gmail[dot]com.
